140dB was established in 1987 and was based on the idea that young engineers and producers who were gaining their first production breaks needed full-on one-to-one support as well as individual strategic marketing separate to that of the studios. Along with that was a more aesthetic goal - to proactively track down bands that were fresh and new and music that genuinely excited us rather than be satisfied with any old traffic which came our way. It was probably this combination of (call them naive!) ideals and business planning which made the fledging 140dB a very attractive proposition to young producers and bands alike.
In time, 140dB became known for some of the most groundbreaking projects of the
80's and 90's - Flood's production work alone over these years (with SOFT CELL,
DEPECHE MODE, THE JESUS AND MARY CHAIN, U2, THE SMASHING PUMPKINS, POLLY HARVEY,
NINE INCH NAILS and NICK CAVE) proved him to be one of the most successful and
prolific producers of his generation.... He was joined by the likes of Steve Osborne,
Ben Hillier and Danton Supple who quickly gained critical acclaim as producers
and mixers. We also have a team of younger producers who look set to raise eyebrows
and gain fans in the coming year. Collectively, 140dB producers have also worked
on many breakthrough and award winning albums including THE BREEDERS, HAPPY MONDAYS,
THE DOVES, IAN BROWN, ELBOW, NEW ORDER, PLACEBO, SUEDE, BLUR and KT TUNSTALL to
name only a few and 140dB producers have consistently won BRIT Awards and Grammy's
as well as Q Awards.
2007 saw us cook up brilliant albums for FOO FIGHTERS, GOLDFRAPP, dEUS and CHERRYGHOST as well as THE RASCALS, PEOPLE IN PLANES AND THE B-52's which we're sure will further reinforce our reputation for being involved in the best projects around. We also expanded our roster to include the world renowned and highly experienced producer GIL NORTON.
140dB is a small and dedicated team now comprising of: ROS EARLS (Founder and Owner), KATRINA BERRY (Joint Managing Director and Co-Manager) and JENNIFER GREENWOOD (Office Manager).
