140dB was established in 1987 and was based on the idea that young engineers and producers who were gaining their first production breaks needed one-to-one support as well as an individual strategy separate to that of the studios. With a vision, too,  to proactively track down bands that broke new ground and that genuinely excited them.

In time, 140dB became known for some of the most groundbreaking projects of the 80’s and 90’s – FLOOD’S production work alone over these years (with DEPECHE MODE, THE JESUS AND MARY CHAIN, U2, THE SMASHING PUMPKINS, POLLY HARVEY, NIN, SIGUR ROS and EDITORS) proved him to be one of the most successful and prolific producers of his generation…. He was joined by the likes of STEVE OSBORNE, BEN HILLIER and DANTON SUPPLE who quickly gained critical acclaim as producers and mixers. In recent years we have also amassed a team of younger producers including DAN AUSTIN, JOE HIRST and ANDY SAVOURS who look set to raise the bar and break new ground again in the coming year.

Collectively, 140dB producers have also worked on many breakthrough and award winning albums including THE BREEDERS, FOO FIGHTERS, ELBOW, NEW ORDER, PLACEBO, SUEDE, BLUR, CHERRY GHOST and breaking artists CHARLI XCX and GOLDHAWKS to name only a few and 140dB producers have consistently won BRIT Awards and Grammy’s as well as Q Awards.

2009/10 had our clients producing and mixing albums for DEPECHE MODE, DOVES, 30 SECONDS TO MARS, IAN BROWN , EDITORS, GOLDHAWKS, AMY MACDONALD and VIOLENT SOHO as well as BETH JEANS HOUGHTON which we’re sure will further reinforce our reputation for being involved in the best projects around.

140dB now also represents a team of talented WRITERS including DAVE MC CRACKEN who began life as a pro-tools wizz and musical collaborator over at Sarm Studios.  Over the past 18 months Dave has penned tracks with artists from BEYONCE to IAN BROWN and OH LAND to JOHN LEGEND. The talented DIMITRI TIKOVOI has been flat out writing with CHARLIE XCX, SOHO DOLLS and SOHPIE ELLIS BEXTOR. Award winning producer and former member of the PSYCHEDELIC FURS and producer of SUEDE , PULP and THE COURTEENRS has recently been Penning tracks with THE CHEEK and ONE NIGHT ONLY.

Our latest additions to the roster are ERIK MARTENSSON who with partner MIQAEL PERSSON are emerging as one of Sweden’s hottest writing production teams with cuts from POP IDOL to ex JOURNEY’s JEFF SCOTT SOTO.

Most of our clients now have their own studios scattered around the country and beyond ( Bath, London, Dorset , Stockholm)  making both full -on recording and earlier-days development equally as feasible and cost effective.
